No.99 Restaurant is named after its position on the corner of Chippenham Road in London's Maida 'it's cool to live here' Vale, and is the best kind of neighbourhood eaterie. One where you can pop in after work, ease into the relaxed yet refined atmosphere, and be guaranteed a nice meal that doesn't make you wince when the bill arrives. No. 99 Restaurant is a series of conservatories; two at the front, and one down a small corridor, for private dining. The muted walls and wooden floors in all three are as earthy as the staff and diners, the majority, young professionals. The modest Modern European menu changes daily, though there's always a juicy bit of chargrilled Welsh steak on there. Typical temptations would be braised lamb shank with herb mash and red wine jus, and pan-fried sea bass accompanied by an asparagus and pea risotto. Like everything else, desserts are handmade on site; the classic cr?me brulee is fantastic.
