There?s no doubting the input of masterchef Albert Roux on the menu in Brasserie Roux. Dishes go far beyond the usual roll-call of French brasserie classics in starters such as pressed pork salad with poached egg remoulade or pike (a rarely used fish) in a quenelle lyonnaise which will be hard to find in any other french central London restaurant. Meanwhile, mains proffer the type of rustic Gallic cooking not often seen this side of the Channel: gratin d?Andouillette or beef cheeks ? la Proven?ale, say. Despite the above-average quality of the operation, prices are far from greedy for a central London restaurant, with an outstanding-value pre-theatre menu at ?15 for three courses. It?s also a lovely restaurant to spend a couple of hours among the lovely period features & more modern designer touches such as oversized light fittings. Service, however, continues to be rather up & down, with occasional reports of ?icy? staff which is the only drawback for Brasserie Roux french restaurant.
