Surely this is a restaurant, not just a gastropub?? asks one reader. True, The House blurs the boundaries between the two. To begin with, there?s not much room given over to those who just want a quick drink ? & those who are after a simple swift half are given short shrift by the occasionally ?frosty? staff. On the other hand, why wouldn?t you want to eat here when the menu offers such ?wonderful? fare as sashimi of yellowfin tuna with yuzu & pickled ginger, linguini of lobster with clams, chilli & slow-roasted tomatoes or parfait of foie gras, chicken livers & Armagnac served with toasted brioche? Food prices, too, are more restaurant than gastropub, though the interesting wine list has something for every pocket, from a South African Sauvignon for ?14 to ?890 for a sought-after bottle of 1988 Ch?teau P?trus.
