Mango Room
Address:
10-12 Kentish Town Road, NW1 8NH
Telephone:
020 7482 5065
It?s in the heart of hippest Camden Town, with classic ska and reggae wafting through the air, and an excellent vibe from the young, personable crowd who come to drink and meet. You?ll be tempted to book the Mango Room before you even hear about the food. It?s great - a fusion of traditional and modern Caribbean cuisine. Favourites include curry goat with hot pepper, scallions, pimento and spices, or chargrilled jerk chicken with jerk sauce. Do not miss the mango and banana brulee. One of the few destination restaurants in Camden Town, the ?fantastic? Mango Room contrasts a grungy location over the road from the Tube with chic-but-casual surrounds, featuring brightly painted walls & a thudding reggae bass line. The menu might not change much but the kitchen has perfected dishes over time & the restaurant?s many fans say the food ?cannot be faulted?. Expect ?excellent? renditions of the likes of crab & potato balls, ackee & saltfish or creole snapper with a mango & peppercorn sauce. Portions are large but try to save space for accomplished desserts such as spiced pear in chocolate rum sauce or mango & banana br?l?e. A rather eccentric wine list should, perhaps, be skipped in favour of one of the ?brilliant & tasty cocktails?, many based on rum. Service has its ?abrupt? moments but usually there are ?no complaints?.
