The Millennium Dome is the largest dome in the World, and is situated in Greenwich in East London. It was originally built to house an exhibition to celebrate the start of the Millennium. It was a very controversial project and proved to be a costly mistake, as not enough visitors arrived to cover costs, leading to large political arguments at the time. The Millennium Dome, sometimes called simply “The Dome� was left vacant for many years, until it was eventually acquired by the telephone company O2. They have in fact recently changed the name and the Millennium Dome is new officially named “The O2� although it is more commonly referred to by it’s original name.
