Nelsons column is an 18ft tall monument in Trafalgar Square, built to celebrate the life of Admiral Nelson. It was built after his death at the battle of Trafalgar, and was completed in 1843. The statue of Nelson is facing South in the direction of Buckingham Palace and Pall Mall, both of which represent his ships on top of their flagpoles. The column has become a very popular tourist attraction
