Area Description

Putney is a popular leafy area of South West London, set on the River Thames with excellent transport links into the West End of London. There are wonderful riverside walks and the embankment is usually buzzing with rowers, runners and walkers enjoying the Putney vibe almost like ‘the countryside’ in London. There are lots of places to eat on the riverside and a bustling high street for all your shopping needs, including many supermarkets for stocking up on food and essential items.
Putney is linked to Fulham, another affluent neighbourhood, on the northern side of the Thames, by Putney Bridge, which is the only bridge in the country to have churches on both sides. And little more than 100 metres upstream from this bridge are the University Boat Race Stones, which mark the starting and finishing points of the famous Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, a tradition that dates back to 1829. A stroll over the bridge Bishop’s Park and Fulham Palace is a beautiful and peaceful place to visit with a fantastic cafe serving delicious cakes, fresh soup, salads and sandwiches. Fulham Palace is free to enter and is truly a hidden gem of peace and quiet set in beautiful grounds. We love to follow the seasons in the walled garden followed by a cup of tea at the Drawing Room café.
Favourite haunts on the Lower Richmond Road are Hudsons Restaurant and The Grind coffee shop. Hudsons is a very popular community restaurant, great value and the food is always good. They have a happy hour every evening and offer bar snacks and a well- balanced menu.
