In just over 24 hours the city prepares for more Team GB success stories and headlines, broken records and gold medals in what will be an extraordinary 2012 Paralympic Games.

LOCOG chairman, Lord Coe, said he was confident the Games would be significantly different from previous years and has signed deals with more international broadcasters meaning the Paralympics will reach global audiences in the US, Canada, Pakistan and Iran.

He revealed also revealed that of an extra 70,000 tickets made available last Bank Holiday weekend, 50,000 have already sold and an expected 130,000 extra will be up for grabs. More than 2.3 million tickets have been sold in total marking this year’s Paralympics as nothing less than spectacular and the best to-date.

The fun begins this afternoon when the four national Flames from UK capital cities, London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast unite at Stoke Mandeville Stadium – the birthplace of the Paralympic Games and ignite the official Paralympic Torch. Making its prestigious journey through Buckinghamshire and via convoy to London on Thursday 29th August, spectators have high hopes for the Opening Ceremony and can’t wait to cheer on Paralympians through the gates.

The ceremony, directed by Jenny Sealey and Bradley Hemmings, starts at 8.30pm BST and will feature more than 3,000 volunteers including, 50 disabled performers and rehabilitating soldiers over a exhilarating three hours. The show, titled ‘Enlightenment’, Coe says is more thoughtful than Danny Boyle’s spectacle at the Olympics and is about human understanding, limitations and the importance of knowledge.

“As I’ve said before this is not a country that is going to sit this one out and it’s very exciting for us,” said Coe.

“The Games are integrated but distinct and we’re looking forward to fantastic days ahead.”
