It is no secret that a visit to the UK’s capital will never leave you short of things to see and do. So much so that it can be somewhat impossible to know where to even begin. However, aside from the many well-known attractions that are open all year round, this Autumn sees a whole host of festivals, shows and events to keep you entertained, inspired and full of culture. Here are just a few to get you started.

If it’s fine art that you’re after then look no further than Tate Britain’s current Pre-Raphaelites exhibition. With over 150 works on display, this exhibition has received glowing reviews since its opening in September: being hailed as perhaps the greatest tribute to the revolutionary art movement of the 19th Century. There are also regular tours and talks to enhance the experience of being able to see a truly stunning collection of art. Whilst you are there, why not take a look at what this year’s world renowned Turner Prize Award has to offer.

Check out the gallery’s website for more information.

For any theatre-goers, there is of course the world famous West End – absolutely brimming with enough theatrical delights to please just about everyone. Many of the shows are so successful they have been running for years. Phantom of the Opera for example is in its third decade and is currently on at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Then there is the incredibly successful musical stage adaptation of Billy Elliot that has been selling out since it first opened in 2006. Featuring original music by legend Elton John, the show has found its home at the Victoria Palace Theatre and continues to take daily bookings. The Royal Ballet is currently in residence at the Royal Opera House with a beautiful rendition of Tchaikovsky’s dearly loved classic – Swan Lake.

For something a little different, Faulty Towers the Dining Experience offers a unique and hilarious evening of food and laughter. Inspired by legendary comedian John Cleese’s hit TV series of the 70s, Fawlty Towers, the night pays tribute to some of the most memorable moments in British comedy whilst serving up a delicious meal. With bread rolls flying through the air and inappropriate comments being bantered about by familiar faces you will be sure to have tears rolling down your cheeks between mouthfuls.

Faulty Towers the Dining Experience is currently causing havoc at Charing Cross Hotel’s Torquay Suite Theatre.

If your visit to London happens to be during the second weekend in November, then you can be witness one of the oldest, longest and most popular civic processions in the world. The Lord Mayor’s Show is one of Britain’s grandest annual parades with this year’s being bigger than ever. From marching bands to acrobats and steamrollers – the parade will span more than 3.5 miles with over 6000 performers. It takes place on Saturday 11th November and will fill the entire space between Mansion House and Aldwych in celebration of the 685th Lord Mayor of London taking office. A true feast for the eyes and ears, this event is free and fun for all the family. All the details, including a full itinerary of the can be found on the official website.

These are a mere handful of suggestions, giving a taster of what London has to offer. But however you choose to spend your time here, Home From Home offers fabulous accommodation in carefully selected locations – ensuring your stay is exactly what our name implies.
